How to Decorate with your Thrift Store Finds

You get home from the thrift store with a bag full of great finds still on cloud nine from the trip and think now what. I love bringing home a new find it sort of gets the creative juices flowing. I try to have an idea at least of where the item I am going to purchase is going to go. I need to love the piece even though it is cheap I still need to have a place for it. On occasion I have been known to impulse shop because that piece just speaks to my heart and then I bring it home and find a place for it. I do get asked often how do I maintain my collections without them getting out of control. I let my space dictate how much I can have. If I don’t have room for it I stop the collection. Take my sifter wall I love it as it is and don’t have space on my wall to add another one so I stopped looking for sifters unless it is to add into my Etsy shop. This just helps me keep my sanity and my home looking tidy and not cluttered. Now that you know how I decide on items let’s chat about the items and how I love to use them.

My current finds and how I used them

I lucked out this week when I went thrifting and found some great things. Surprisingly no baskets! I fell in love with the vintage basketball team picture and can you believe the frame! This was one that I didn’t have an immediate idea of where it might go but it spoke to my heart. I ended up deciding to hang it in my kitchen because it was the perfect size and color for that space. I love hanging art or pictures throughout my home and the kitchen is no exception. I currently have an art piece I found at a yard sale hanging in my kitchen as well. Art is just great anywhere really I use it hanging up or propped up against something in a vignette if it is small enough. The barnstar quilt pattern wood is a perfect example of this. I propped it up on top of my cabinet in a cute vignette.

The old bible also spoke to my heart. I am just starting a collection of old bibles and i decided to display them in a wood bowl on top of my dining room table as the perfect centerpiece. I love the contrast of the wood and the tattered book pages with an old candle holder beside it. It just reminds me of something you would have seen in the old days. The old chair also spoke to my heart and I added it to the corner of my “boy” room. It is ready to house a plant at some point or it looks great as is by itself. It added interest and texture to a boring corner. Don’t pass up on chairs too if you see a great old one because you can use it in so many ways.

The other finds were great but unfortunately I don’t have room for or a need for them. The mugs would be great to add to someone’s collection. You could display them on a fun mug rack or sit one on a counter in a vignette. The table was my favorite find and I truly wish I had room for it. It would be great in a space to hold plants! That is automatically where my mind goes. The crocks are also something special especially with the blue bands. I love to use these in a vignette or maybe add in some greenery or a candle. The painting is another great thing to maybe put in a bathroom or bedroom. The muted colors are great. Last but not least that cute old mirror is perfect in a bathroom or bedroom! I loved the design and the aged chippy look.

I hope I could at least inspire you on how to use your finds and how I like to make the decision to purchase an item. I love thrifting but I try to really be mindful of what I bring into my home. I am a firm believer that if you love an item it will work somewhere in your home. I think I am a great example of that because I don’t really know what to call my style except perfectly imperfect 🙂
