Logan County Brownies

I bet you are wondering what is a Logan County brownie? Well it was my favorite desert growing up and still is today! I even think it is turning into my kids favorite dessert too. The name comes from the county I grew up in in my home state of West Virginia. My grandma would make these all the time and I treasure those times and memories and love passing them on to my boys. These are so moist and soft almost like a cake with the best icing you will ever try. It melts in your mouth like candy. It actually has the consistency of a fudge candy. This is not your typical brownie but trust me you will fall in love with them. So I am here to share a piece of my childhood with you!

  • Ingredients
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 can of Hershey’s syrup or if you can’t find the can 1 and 1/2 cup of Hershey’s syrup from the bottle
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional I don’t use them I like them without)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • Icing Ingredients
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup Carnation Evaporated Milk
  • 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

For the brownies you cream the sugar and butter together then add in the syrup and eggs one at a time. Stir in the flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes and let cool. You will need a 9 x 13 cake pan for these.

For the icing combine in a sauce pan the butter, sugar and evaporated milk. Heat until boiling and boil for 1 minute. I stir it until it starts to bowl and then I will stir it a bit while it is boiling. Add in chocolate chips and take off of the heat and stir until melted and combined. Pour the hot icing over cooled brownies.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we do! Let me know if you make them and if you loved them! Remember these are not your typical brownies but that won’t matter once you taste them.
