3 Reasons Why You Need a Plant

I am a certified plant lady. There I admitted it. If you follow me on Instagram you may know this about me already. I have many plants scattered throughout my home. I have put together three reasons why you need a plant to show you how much they truly make a difference in your home. I thought I would share those reasons with you in hopes that maybe you will become a certified plant person too!

They Purify the Air

This was my number one reason why you need a plant. Plants are not only pretty but they are beneficial to our health. This alone should make you run right out and try one. They clean the air by absorbing toxins and producing oxygen. NASA has even conducted a study on this topic. Here is a list of a few of the top air purifying plants in case you want to go out and purchase one.

  • Snake plant- I own one of these and they are very easy to care for. They can thrive on lower light and I usually water them every two weeks.
  • Aloe Vera- This is another great plant that is low maintenance. They like a brighter light and I water again about once every two weeks.
  • Golden Pothos- This is one of my favorite plants because they grow and trail so pretty. They are very low maintenance as well. They can tolerate low light and I usually water about once a week.
  • Philodendron- This one is a great plant to hang because it trails too. They prefer a little brighter light and I water once a week.
  • Rubber Plants- I am a newbie when it comes to this plant but I love it. I feel like it may be a bit higher maintenance than the others listed.
  • Chinese Evergreen- This one is another option for a beginner. They tolerate a lower light and I usually water once a week to once every two weeks.

They Reduce Stress

Plants can actually boost your mood. You hear people say plants just make me happy and that is really true! Being around these green beauties is good for the brain. They always suggest to go out into nature when you get stressed so it only makes sense to bring nature inside to do the same. I don’t know about you but anything that can help my stress levels and look pretty in my home is a bonus.

They Are Great Decor Pieces

One main reason I started to add plants into my home is that they made my home look cozy and welcoming instantly. Plants are such a cheap way to refresh a space in your home. They add color and life to an area. I used to use faux greenery but now I choose real plants over faux most times. They look great mixed in with all my vintage items. They can fill in an otherwise empty corner or shelf. Trailing plants in a jute or macrame hanger is one of my favorite things right now.

A great tip to get started is to go to your local home improvement store and see if they have what I call baby plants. These are the small starter size plants and they are usually three dollars and ninety nine cents. My philodendrons both were baby plants and now are growing and trailing beautifully. This is an inexpensive way to maybe try out one of the above plants.

My Pothos, Philodendron, and Chinese Evergreen

These are all great reasons why you need a plant but most of all they just bring me joy. I hope that I may have convinced you to go out and at least try one plant. If you keep it alive for a few weeks then try another one. Before you know it you will have a great plant selection and your home will be full of life and look so cozy.
