I love a good thrift find especially when it can be used in many different ways. Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for and you can easily end up down a rabbit hole of shopping for Fall themed items. This got me to thinking of some thrifted ideas for Fall. This season is a little different in the way I decided to shop and decorate. I have been craving more simplicity and less clutter which means I don’t really want to add more things to store away. I only used a few items stored from last year. We are on a pretty tight budget and wanted to see how much I could reuse and what I might want to add in.
Once I knew what I was looking for I decided to go out to my thrift shops and search out items that might work in my Fall decor and beyond. I first thought about what things invoke that Fall cozy vibe to me. I love muted warm tones and rustic textures. That combination just screams cozy Fall to me. Then I set out to see what I could find that would work. I wanted to share my thrifted ideas for Fall with you!
Vintage Baskets are a great thrifted idea for Fall
I seem to luck into really amazing vintage baskets at my thrift shops. To me I love the rustic texture paired with other items. If you are ever stumped on how to decorate a shelf or cabinet top just add an old vintage basket with bittersweet to it and instant cozy Fall charm. You can search out many different types of baskets at your shops to see which style works for your home.
Vintage Oil Paintings work as a thrifted idea for Fall
Vintage art is another great thing to look for at thrift shops. Remember when I said warm muted tones invoke Fall to me, well I ended up finding the perfect one at an estate sale for thrift store prices. My biggest tip also when searching out art at thrift shops is always look up! For instance, I was checking out one day and happened to look up behind the cash register and there it was, my favorite painting of all time staring at me for only four dollars! You never know what you will see hanging above or behind something.
Vintage Candle Holders
The warm glow of a candle makes everything cozy. Candles are a must at Fall. I love to search out brass, tin and enamelware candle holders at my thrift shops. They are very common and super inexpensive. You can buy a few bring them home and scatter them throughout your home, or group them all together as a cool centerpiece for a table. They are the perfect purchase for Fall and Winter!
Ironstone
It never fails I can usually always find a piece of ironstone at my thrift shops. It is actually my go to place for it. The crazing and darker tone that it takes on as it ages fits in perfectly with my warm tones. That makes it perfect for a Fall centerpiece or bouquet. You can also look for pieces with a fall color or trim on it to display. Ironstone is so versatile and another piece I use year round.
Amber Bottles and Glassware
These are great to find at your thrift shops! I stumble on them all the time. Think outside the box and collect several sizes and types to group as a nice collection in a cabinet or on a coffee table. I have one that I use as a plant holder to add in that Fall tone to my kitchen.
I hope these ideas are a starting point for you if you are looking for “Fall decor” that might not be considered Fall decor. Thrift shops hold so many possibilities for you to be creative and stay on budget. You can check out a few finds that I have transformed here.
