Style a Peg Rack in 3 Easy Steps

I love a good peg rack. I feel like every style of home should have one. They are not only functional but add so much style to a space. It is like creating an extra space to decorate because of all the ways you can use one. I am going to share with you my tips and tricks on how I like to style a peg rack.

Keep in mind my style is more rustic with a little primitive mixed in so that is how I am going to decorate mine. However you can use these tips with any style. I have found my peg racks at antique shops, estate sales and primitive shops. You can also make one if you cannot seem to find the type you are looking for. I am going to share some of my go to tips on how to style a peg rack. Let’s get started styling our peg racks in 3 easy steps!

Scale matters

What I mean by scale is how big your peg rack is. If you have a big one you can use bigger items to make them stand out as a focal point. I did this with my watering cans on my big green peg rack. I was able to group my bigger watering cans together because they matched the scale of my peg rack. Smaller peg racks tend to look better with smaller items hanging off of them.

Texture and Contrast are great tips for styling a peg rack

This is my favorite little tip about peg racks! I love adding in texture meaning using something soft like a grain sack or dish towel or something rough like a basket. The combo of both is also amazing. I have a primitive homespun bonnet hanging with a fun woven basket from Target and they compliment each other so well.

Contrast is also great to use in a peg rack. Mixing light and dark colors or smooth and rough textures for that hint of contrast. I think texture and contrast add so much interest for the eye. Try smooth pitchers hanging off a peg rack next to a woven basket for a good contrast. I have that in my peg rack over my kitchen table. I love my black tin pitcher hanging next to my old woven baskets.

Balance or Symmetry is always important when styling a peg rack

Now you have gathered all the items that you want to use on your peg rack but are stumped on how to arrange them. I love symmetry when styling a peg rack, meaning I like to balance out things. Next I like to look at how many racks I have and I begin to arrange my items. Sometimes I keep it simple with two items in which I arrange them equal distance in so that it looks balanced even though the items are completely different. If I have three items then I group them together more closely like a little vignette. I think that is a great way to look at a peg rack. It is like adding in a little vignette to an area. You can also add in a cute little sign that would lay over the racks to add something different. It adds contrast or texture to the other pieces.

I like to look at where I am hanging the peg rack to determine the items that will go on it. If it is in my kitchen then I will add kitchen type items into it. My entryway for example has items that would look cute naturally hanging in an entryway. I think too if you start to play around with the items you have and arrange them in different ways to see what looks pleasing to your eye. I hope these tips and tricks will inspire you to decorate a fun peg rack in your home.
